Context of Question
At pre-admission testing and over the phone, I was asked about my religious preferences. Actually I don't know how they knew, but they said "you have no religious preferences?" And I said no. In person, it was someone who had a cross around her neck. Over the phone it was a nurse with an accent and name that made me guess she was Latino.

I just get a sense that people are bewildered. And they also feel distant from me because I'm Asian. Maybe that tips it over.

Hospitals ask this because certain religious beliefs require doctors to,  or not to,  consider forms of treatment that go against their beliefs. So yes, I  answer I am Atheist because I want doctors and nurses to consider all possible ways to help me.
