Most parts of Africa seem to be faring a lot better in coping with Covid-19 in terms of number of deaths per capita, except for South Africa. The next step is to find out why and how this is so we can learn from it.
Possible factors to explore:
- Cross immunity — Could it be exposure to a lot of other diseases (malaria, dengue, etc) that gives them the extra immunity against Covid-19?
- They have more Vitamin D?
- Median ages — many parts of Africa have younger populations. Kenya: 20, Malawi: 18
- Africa is genetically diverse?
- Is there a different strain of Covid-19 there?
